About the award: Gates Cambridge Scholarships are highly competitive full-cost scholarships. It is awarded to prominent applicants from countries other than the UK to pursue full-time postgraduate study in any subject available at the University of Cambridge. Apply to take one of the following full-time residential courses: Doctorate (three-year research degree only); MA or MLitt (two-year research degree only); Or a one-year graduate course (e.g. MPhil, LLM, MASt, diploma, MBA, etc.)
I am already a student at Cambridge University and want to apply to a new postgraduate course. For example, if you are studying for an MPhil, you can apply for the Gates Cambridge Scholarship for a PhD. However, if you have already started one course, you cannot apply for the Gates Cambridge Scholarships to fund the rest.
You are already a Gates Cambridge Scholar and would like to apply for a second scholarship. You must apply before the second international deadline and pass the same ministerial qualifications, selection process, and interview as all other applicants.

Important Notes: Gates Cambridge Scholarships are extremely competitive – over 4000 applicants apply for 90 scholarships each year.
Due to intense competition, Trust has a four-step selection process:
Department Ranking – Only the best candidates from each department are ranked based on academic merit
Selected: Jean Gates Cambridge reviews applications from candidates ranked according to the four Gates Cambridge criteria and provides a list of interviews.
Interview: All shortlisted applicants have a short interview to assess how well they meet the four Gates Cambridge criteria.
Selection: Chairs of maintenance committees meet to determine final list of colleagues
